Shaun Alexander was an outstanding runner and NFL MVP for the Seattle Seahawks. Now, he is the latest member to join the Seahawks’ Ring of Honor. 

Before Marshawn Lynch, another mighty Seattle Seahawk soul and NFL MVP roamed the backfield of the Emerald City. That would be Shaun Alexander.

From 2000 to 2007, Alexander was one of the best running backs in the league, and his 2005 NFL MVP season resulted in the Seahawks’ first-ever trip to the Super Bowl. Now, Alexander gets to take his place alongside former quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, former offensive tackle Walter Jones, and Mike former head coach Mike Holmgren in the Seahawks Ring of Honor.

His reaction to the news? Priceless.

Alexander’s induction will take place on Oct. 16 during Seattle’s home game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Seahawks legend Shaun Alexander will join fellow greats in the Ring of Honor

Before his pro days, Alexander was a star running back at the University of Alabama. His senior season capped off in the 2000 Orange Bowl, where despite rushing for three touchdowns, the Tide fell 35-34 in overtime to the Michigan Wolverines and a future 7-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback.

After being drafted 19th overall by the Seahawks, Alexander went on to score 100 touchdowns during his career in Seattle, joining Steve Largent as the only members of the organization to accomplish such a feat. Alexander’s 2005 season was magnificent, rushing for over 1,800 yards and a then-NFL record 27 rushing touchdowns. Seattle made it to the Super Bowl but lost to Jerome Bettis and the Pittsburgh Steelers in a controversial game.

While Seattle eventually took home the trophy in 2013 with the Legion of Boom, no one can question Alexander’s impact on the team as his tenure featured four NFC West titles and five playoff appearances. 9,429 yards while wearing blue and green, worthy numbers for the Ring of Honor. Congratulations to Shaun Alexander on this long overdue achievement.
