The Green Bay Packers will have some tough decisions to make heading into the 53-player roster cut deadline on Aug. 30. Here are three players they could shockingly cut.

The Green Bay Packers filed to make it to the Super Bowl last year, despite how dominant they were in the regular season. This offseason, the team lost a huge name in wide receiver Davante Adams, and watched as linebacker Za’Darius Smith sign with the rival Minnesota Vikings. Even so, the team is still expected to contend in the NFC, as they seriously bolstered up their defense where it could make up for their lack of star power in the receiving game.

This week, the Packers play their final game of the preseason against the Kansas City Chiefs. From there, head coach Matt LaFleur and general manager Brian Gutekunst will have to bring the roster down to 53 players by Aug. 30. With that, there are likely to be some surprises made.

Here are three cut candidates the Packers could make.

3. Tyler Davis, TE

One name that could be cut at the deadline could be Tyler Davis. A former quarterback, he made the transition to tight end during his time playing for the UConn Huskies. He was selected in the sixth-round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars, but made his way to Green Bay in 2021.

The Packers do have a need at tight end with Robert Tonyan still sidelined as he recovers from a torn ACL suffered last October. Marcedes Lewis is the TE No. 1 on the team’s depth chart, with Josiah Segura listed as the backup.

Davis is listed as part of the third string at his position, but various media members have noted that he has struggled throughout training camp. If the mistakes continue heading into the cut-down deadline, Davis may be out.
