Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Diontae Johnson disputes he is unhappy with the franchise.

With rumors going wild that Diontae Johnson was unhappy with his Pittsburgh Steelers contract situation, the talented wide receiver seemed to have laid to rest this notion with one tweet.

These rumors first circulated in Mark Kaboly’s post for The Athletic on Friday. Johnson has one year left on his rookie deal with the Steelers. Given that he was a third-round pick out of Toledo in the 2019 NFL Draft, Johnson has yet to make big money in the NFL. With Pittsburgh experiencing a change of guard at quarterback for the first time in years, there is a ton of pressure on Johnson.

Here is Johnson doing his best to squash the rumors that he is unhappy with his Steelers’ contract.

Diontae Johnson contract rumors: Pittsburgh Steelers WR disputes unhappiness

Johnson is coming off his best season as a professional. He set career-highs in receptions (107), yardage (1,161) and touchdowns (8) in his first Pro Bowl campaign. Pittsburgh qualified for the AFC playoffs in Ben Roethlisberger’s final season in the league. With Mitchell Trubisky and eventually Kenny Pickett taking over for Big Ben, things will look vastly different for Pittsburgh.

Though Johnson may not love the idea of heading into this fall without a long-term deal, he could make even more money if he backs up what he did on the gridiron last year with another stellar season. Pittsburgh may have a rich history of drafting wide receivers, but Johnson could force his way into the franchise tag conversation if he balls out again. Of course, stability is preferred here.

Overall, Pittsburgh is a team with a great deal of variance. If Trubisky or Pickett do the quarterback position justice and the patented Pittsburgh defense holds true, the Steelers can win double-digit games and make the postseason. Should the quarterback play be a tire fire and the defense pulls back, it could be an unmitigated disaster in Western Pennsylvania. Johnson is stuck in the middle…

If Johnson controls what he can, he should make big money, one way or another in his free agency.
