Green Bay Packers GM Brian Gutekunst says he doubts they’d take trade calls for Jordan Love, which is fine because they’re not likely to get any.

The Packers may be hopeful of convincing Aaron Rodgers to remain in Green Bay but they’re not considering trading Jordan Love.

Brian Gutekunst said as much during his Wednesday press conference, telling reporters he is “very doubtful” the organization would take a trade call for the young quarterback.

That’s not exactly ruling out the possibility of trading Love but it’s also pretty hard to imagine the phone in Gutekunst’s office ringing off the hook over Love if he was available.

The quote was immediate fodder for jokes and jabs about Love’s trade market.

Value is the issue for Love. He simply wouldn’t command very much in terms of trade assets and there isn’t exactly cap value to getting him off the books.

So the Packers could look to trade him but they’re unlikely to get anything back to justify the trade. Whether or not they see him as the heir apparent to Rodgers, they’re probably better off seeing if he can develop a bit more before going that route.

The exception could be a team like the Broncos coming in and being willing to pay a premium for Love. He has a connection to new Denver head coach Nathaniel Hackett, who was his offensive coordinator in Green Bay.

In any case, it looks like Rodgers or bust for the Packers. If the goal is to win a Super Bowl right now, no one thinks Love has that in him, otherwise he’d be drawing a lot more attention.
